Knowing Where You Are Will Help You Get Where You Want to Go

Do you have a garden that you're getting into this time of year?

I come by my love of plants and gardening honestly.

My mom has the greenest thumb of anyone I know.

Her garden and landscaping at my childhood home are seriously jaw-dropping. It's magical to be there during the summer.

But I always used to tease her about the pictures she would take of her landscaping.

I'm not talking about well-framed, artsy photos that catch the light and color just so that you can't help but reflect on the beauty of life.

No - I'm talking plain, point-and-shoot landscape photos. One for each of garden bed.

And then, of course, she prints and files them so she can look back and reference the changes.

I thought it was all worthy of a loving, teasing moment until google photos presented me with an "on this day" photo from 5 years ago when we first moved into our house and my jaw dropped!

It was a picture of our side yard where we have a row of shrubs planted and they were so tiny and short I almost couldn't believe it!

This spring those arborvitaes are enormous! They've filled out and grown SO tall that they are finally the "privacy screen" we hoped they would be.

I still remember buying them. Arborvitae can be expensive when you need as many as we needed so we got the small ones hoping they would survive and one day grow bigger.

Well, they've grown and I can't believe how much come in just 5 years.

It would be so easy to forget how small they started out without that photo, that proof.

It's why I have all of my clients take a current inventory of their lives when we first start coaching together.

They take a snapshot of what life looks like today so they don't forget.

They look at all of the "empty" areas of their lives and think about what they might want to grow there instead.

We assess career, family, relationships, health, finances, hobbies, rest, and anything else. And then we dream.

We set goals and create a plan:

  • How will you "tend" to these areas of your life?

  • What are the lessons you need to learn?

  • What does success look and feel like?

Then, as we're wrapping up our time together, we take an "after" shot. They compare their original assessment to how they feel today.

We celebrate wins and progress - so much progress. And we dream some more.

Because often, the better it gets, the better it gets.

Are you taking "photos" of your life so that someday in the future you can celebrate how much has changed?

How much you've grown?

And are you taking the time to dream about what it is you want to "plant" in your life?

Take the photos. Create goals. Make progress. Celebrate. Repeat.

My garden looks amazing because I had an amazing teacher (my mom).

I can teach you too. Your first step is to schedule a compatibility call so I can understand what life looks like today and then help you create your unique plan for growth.
