My Favorite Journaling Prompts for Working Moms

working mom writing in a journal

It's the middle of the holiday break and I find myself torn between wanting to do nothing and wanting to prepare for January.

Between not wanting to rush or wish away the slowness of this week between Christmas and New Year's but also wanting to start planning and getting organized.

Do you feel that too?

What if you could do a little of both?

What if you stay snuggled up and relaxed on the couch or in bed while the kids are sleeping or watching a movie, and reflect?

Think about the last year and what you learned.

Dream about what you want to create in the new year.

Use this time, not to do, but to decide.

Not to set goals, plan, or schedule, but to choose the priorities that will make all of that effortless later on.

How do you do that without jumping into action?

I'll be journaling. But you can also just think and daydream a bit. It doesn't have to be complicated.

If you want to join me, here are the prompts I'll be using to guide my thinking.

Use one or use them all.

But lean into this last week that sits between 2022 and 2023.

There will be plenty of time in January to take action. I promise.

  • What did you learn last year?

  • What relationships have meant the most to you in the last year?

  • Last year was a year of … / This year will be a year of …

  • What questions do you have for yourself in the upcoming year?

  • What behavior, habit, or routine are you currently putting up with? Why?

  • Are there any words or phrases that you want to eliminate from your vocabulary next year? What do you want to say more of instead?

  • If you could spend more time doing one thing this year, what would it be?

  • What would your future self tell you about how you are living your life right now?
